World Energy Forum (WEF) is an international not-for-profit organization affiliated with the United Nations. The organization was founded in 2008 by Dr. Harold HyunSuk Oh to provide energy and water for all and to promote clean and safe energy and sustainable development across the globe.^[1]

 

월드에너지포럼은 UN에 뿌리를 둔 국제적 비영리 단체이다. 월드에너지포럼은 2008년 오현석(Harold Hyunsuk Oh) 박사에 의하여 설립되었으며, 현재 깨끗하고, 안정이며 지속발전이 가능한 에너지와 물을 전세계 모두에게 제공하기 위한 발전사업을 하고 있다.

World Energy Forum is a global grassroots organization that seeks to embrace the energy needs of all nations and peoples, and to lead the conversation in the discovery, invention, use, and energy management. According to WEF's mission statement, World Energy Forum "envisions to become a global grassroots organization which embraces the needs of all nations and peoples, including governments and private sector, to bring about the change in the world in the energy practice. It is a global movement which aspires to create a new paradigm for sustainable development throughout the world for the present as well as future generations." ^[2][3]

월드에너지포럼은 전세계 에너지 필요성을 수용하여, 신에너지의 발견과 발명, 에너지 사용과 에너지 관리에 대한 모든 대화를 이끌어가는 세계 에너지 분야의 뿌리가 되는 조직이다. 월드에너지포럼의 강령에 의하면 월드에너지 포럼은 범세계적으로 국가와 개인 모두에게 필요한 에너지 제공을 통해 세계를 바꾸어가는 뿌리조직이 되는 비전을 실행해 가고 있다. 이것은 현재뿐 아니라 미래의 자손들에게까지도 지속 발전 가능한 에너지를 제공한다는 새로운 개념의 패러다임으로 이미 국제적인 움직임 이라고도 할 수 있다.    

 

In line with its goals and objectives, World Energy Forum and its affiliates aim to facilitate sustainable energy policies that spur economic growth and environmental protection. In addition, WEF supports collaboration on energy technology to secure future energy supply. Improving energy efficiency and the development and deployment of low carbon technologies is also a WEF concern.^[4]

이러한 목표의 선상위에서 월드에너지 포럼과 그 계열조직들은 경제성장에도 원동력이 되지만 또한 환경도 보호할 수 있는 지속발전 가능한 에너지를 가능하게 하는데 주력하고 있다. 월드에너지포럼은 안전한 미래에너지 개발을 위한 에너지 기술진과 협력하고 있으며, 에너지 효율성 증진, 그리고 저탄소 기술 역시 월드에너지포럼의 관심분야이다.

 

WEF achieves these aims by organizing events which are designed to promote the continuous exchange of ideas and commerce. One such event is the annual international conference on energy and water at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.^[5]

 

월드에너지 포럼은 이러한 목표를 통하여 에너지에 대한 아이디어와 상업적인 면을 서로 교류하는 이벤트를 지속적으로 제공하고 있다. 그중 하나가 매년 뉴욕의 UN 본부에서 열리는 열리는 에너지와 물에 대한 국제 컨퍼런스이다.

 

Since its founding, World Energy Forum has conducted annual conferences at the United Nations^[6] in order to bring together leaders from the governments and private sectors of United Nations member states along with leaders of other international organizations. These conferences aim to develop a roadmap towards cleaner, safer, and more sustainable energy that will benefit all nations and peoples.^[7] At these annual conferences, world leaders are given the opportunity to discuss all issues relating to energy including, technology, policy, investment, capacity building, the environment, and public-private partnership between governments and corporations.^[8]

 

설립 이후, 월드에너지포럼은 UN 소속의 세계의 국가와 민간부분의 리더들을 초청하기위해 UN 본부에서 열리는 에너지 컨퍼런스들을 주관하고 있다.

이 컨퍼런스들은 깨끗하고, 안전하고, 모든국가와 사람들에게 도움이 되는 좀더 지속발전가능한 에너지에 대한 청사진을 제시하고 발전시켜왔다.  이 컨퍼런스들을 통하여 각국의 대표들은 매년 에너지 그리고 이와 관련된 에너지 기술, 에너지 정책, 에너지 투자, 에너지 기술배양, 환경 그리고 정부와 민간의 파트너쉽등등에 대한 이슈를 국제적으로 논의할 수 있는 기회를 가지게 되었다.

World Energy Day[edit] 세게 월드 에너지의 날

Originally proposed by Dr. Harold Hyunsuk Oh, the first World Energy Day was commemorated on October 22, 2012 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. A large number of heads of states, ministers, and country delegations from 89 United Nations member states adopted The Dubai Declaration - Energy for All, and unanimously supported the World Energy Day Proclamation. The aim of World Energy Day is to send positive signal worldwide demonstrating the importance of choices society makes regarding energy policy, energy production, energy use, and the environment.^[9][10]

첫번째 세계 에너지의 날은 아랍에미레이트 두바이에서 2012년 10월 22일에 오현석 박사에 의해 제창되었다. UN 멤버 89개국으로부터 온 대규모의 국가원수와 장관 그리고 국가 대표단이 만장일치로 두바이 선언 – “에너지를 모두에게” 와 세계 에너지의 날 제창에 대해 지지를 표명하였다. 세계 에너지의 날의 목적은 세계의 에너지 정책, 에너지 생산, 에너지 활용, 에너지 사용과 환경에 대한 사회적 선택에 대한 중요성을 전세계에 긍정으로 전달하는데 있다.     

 

 

World Energy Day has been stated by H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council of Energy and MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, as playing a pivotal role in the conservation of natural resources around the world.^[11] World Energy Day is celebrated internationally. H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, in addition to representatives from over 54 countries under the United Nations, Arab League, and African Union are stated as planning to celebrate World Energy Day 2013.^[12] The United Nations hosted World Energy Day 2013 commemoration on October 22, 2013 in New York.^[13]

 

세계 에너지의 날은 두바이 에너지 최고의회의 부회장이자 두바이 수도전기공사의 사장인 H.E. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer에 의해서 공표되었다. 그는 이번 지구의 자원에 대한 논의에서 아주 중요한 역할을 하였다. 세계 에너지의 날은 아랍에미레이트의 부통령이자 총리 그리고 두바이의 통치자인 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum 외 UN과 아랍연맹, 아프리카 연맹 소속국 54개국에서 온 대표들로부터 이에대한 축하인사를 받았고, 2013년 세계 에너지의 날 행사를 준비하게 된다. 그리고 2013년 10월 22일 뉴욕에 있는 UN 본부에서 세계 에너지의 날 2013 행사를 개최하였다.

The President and the Chairman of World Energy Forum Dr. Harold Hyunsuk Oh announced that World Energy Forum 2014 will be held on October 20-24th in Barcelona, Spain, hosted by Spain.

월드에너지포럼의 의장이자 대표인 오현석박사는 2014 세계에너지 포럼이 10월 22일부터 24일가지 스페인 바로셀로나에서 개최된다고 발표하였다.

 

The World Energy Monitor[edit] 월드에너지모니터

World Energy Forum publishes the monthly newsletter, “World Energy Monitor: Leading the Global Conversation”, which provides timely, informative and challenging articles presenting fresh insight in a balanced, nonpartisan context. Monthly issues discuss emerging challenges and opportunities in conventional as well as renewable energy, integrated approaches, global needs assessment, and energy issues in the advanced as well as developing economies.^[14]

 

월드에너지포럼은 글로벌적인 에너지 이슈를 다루는 “월드에너지 모니터” 라는 월간 뉴스레터를 발간하고 있다. 이 뉴스레터는 현시대에 맞는 유용한 정보와 새로운 통찰에 맞는 도전적인 이슈를 균형이고 객관적으로 다루고 있다. 매월 에너지에 대한 새로운 기회와 위협을 다루고 재생가능 에너지뿐 아니라 우리가 이미 알고 있던 에너지 이슈 역시 통합적인 접근과 국제적인 평가로 다루고 있다. 그리고 에너지 이슈만큼 이와 관련된 경제성장에 대해서도 다루고 있다.
